Music practice is hard! It takes time and energy to practice an instrument, and if you don’t keep it coming consistently you’ll find it quite difficult to keep up and motivated throughout the lessons, and eventually the child will want to quit learning the instrument. Why does this happen? Usually its for only one of a couple of reasons. Perhaps the child doesn’t see any future value in the instrument? If they see themselves playing in a higher level band they’ll happily work away. However if you only have a junior band, and they don’t get any real pleasure from going to it they will quickly lose the motivation to practice. Some sort of group to be involved in, either straight away or a goal for the future is an excellent motivating factor.  By incorporating a few Music Theory Games into lesson and practice sessions you might find that things improve and the child begins to enjoy their music a little more.
