One reason yellow jackets are such a hazard is because they’re just plain mean. They’ll go out of their way to sting you. I’ve had them fly from under the eaves clear over the peak of the house to the other side of the roof just to try, successfully, to sting me. When you’re hanging on a ladder and perched precariously at some considerable height, you don’t want a bunch of yellow jackets flying in your face. It’s a natural reaction to recoil, swat like hell and run when attacked by bees. You can’t do that when on a ladder or a roof, so make sure you don’t put yourself in that situation. If by chance a bee does fly at you, it is critical that you hang on to whatever it is you’re holding on to, and don’t panic! Leave the area as quickly as possible without being reckless. Don’t let a puny bee force you to meet your maker.
